Inspired by Nature

When I paint my wish is to capture the beauty of the landscape that surrounds us.

My artwork conveys my own sense of wonder as I contemplate the light, colour and patterns of nature that intersect with us as we move through this world, grounded in nature.

About the Artist

Anne Opavsky is a fine artist working from her Burlington, Ontario studio.

A lifelong artist, Anne has developed a strong rapport with the landscape. Her attention may be captured by a panoramic view of mountain tops, fall leaves peeking into a marsh view, or a spectacular sunset on the way to the grocery store.

Whether traveling near or far Anne keeps an eye out for those moments that evoke a sense of beauty, contentment and sheer happiness and uses them to inspire her work. She is often drawn to the sky, water, and rock that is such a big part of the Canadian experience. Photographic references she snaps and sketches guide her process back in the studio.

Playing with light, colour, and reflection, she interprets her subject by painting in layers in a representational style. Most recently acrylics are her preferred medium, building on experience in drawing and watercolour. She enjoys experimenting with plein air painting, however can get easily distracted just enjoying the views!

The artist exhibits across Ontario, with paintings included in regional juried exhibitions. She is active in the Burlington Fine Arts Association, a member of The Women’s Art Association of Hamilton, and an elected member of the Colour and Form Society.

Time Stands Still While Water Flows

Time Stands Still While Water Flows

The rocks seem solid and fixed, but a time passes the current wears them down, changing both the shape of the granite and the path of the water.

The Beauty of Impermanence

The Beauty of Impermanence

Day by day leaves change colour, dropping when they are ready. And each day through fall a new and beautiful scene is revealed.

Can You Imagine

Can You Imagine

The prettiest little waterfalls on a Muskoka hike, that I can’t resist painting. Can you imagine how the water, the light, and the rocks have changed hour by hour and century by century?

As the sun sets on a hot humid day in late August the drama of a southern Ontario sky never disappoints.

Umbrella Weather

On a cold day in late June the light filtered through a mix of rain and snow. Still the soft blue of Lake Louise warmed my heart.
